Zlatoust is located in the picturesque valley of Ai river, between three mountain ridges. Population is 172 300. The town grew up together with ironworks in the middle of the 18 century. In the 19 century it was the biggest weapons factory and the center of artistic etching. Now the dominant local employer is a metallurgical plant and a machine-building plant. Zlatoust is a homeland of Anatoliy Karpov, the world chess champion.
