Sokol (“sokol” is “falcon” in Russian) is located 35 km north of Vologda. Population of 38 500 people. It is a major center of the wood industry, forming enterprises are two PPM and a woodworking integrated plant. The navigable river Sukhona flows through the city, connecting Sokol with the city of Velikiy Ustyug.
